ORAL HISTORIES BOOK
In 2004 Kaupapa Kererū interviewed 12 people from the Banks Peninsula community in order to gather information on the history of kererū on the Peninsula.
The
objectives of the Oral Histories Project were:
To increase our understanding of the history of kererū ecology on Banks Peninsula / Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū (e.g. patterns, trends, numbers, feeding ecology, preferred habitat)
To understand the values different sections of society hold for kererū
To increase our understanding of Matauranga Ngāi Tahu about kererū
The interviews were completed and compiled into a report by Michael Allen. The report is currently being developed into a publication for distribution and sale to the local community. The booklet entitled ‘E kūkū te kererū: Oral Histories and Recent Research of the Banks Peninsula Kererū' includes a background to the Kaupapa Kererū project, the oral histories project, summaries from participants on a range of subjects relating to kererū history and ecology and Kaupapa Kererū research results.

KAUPAPA KERERŪ CALENDAR
During the last few years Kaupapa Kererū has worked with the 12 Banks Peninsula Primary Schools developing the Kaupapa Kererū Calendar. The calendar includes school childrens drawings of kererū and information on Ngāi Tahu values and history, the history of kererū on Banks Peninsula, kererū ecology and the results of our research.
The calendar also includes survey forms which Banks Peninsula residents fill out whenever they see kererū. The information we ask residents to record are:

Information from the Calendar survey forms is then passed onto our Kaupapa Kererū students who use the information to assist their own research projects. At the 2003 International Wildlife Congress at the University of Canterbury Kaupapa Kererū presented a paper reviewing community involvement in the Kaupapa Kererū Project, in particular analyzing the Kaupapa Kererū Calendar.
